in Turkey to work on an archaeological dig with the
Japanese Institute of Anatolian Archaeology.
Averyl Mitchell –
Kicking Goals and
Living the Dream
Averyl Mitchell (School Captain, Class of 2012) describes
her selection in the Australian Wallaroos Rugby Team
as ‘the best moment of my life’. She sees being asked
to represent her country as a great privilege—one she
is unbelievably grateful for. Averyl’s rise to international
representative honours came after a late start in the
sport—she only stumbled on women’s rugby when
she walked past a training session at The University of
Queensland. She sees her journey as a great example of
the fact that you can be ‘any shape, any size, from any
background, but if you want it and you’re willing to learn,
you can do it’.
