THANK YOU
TO PROGRESSIVE LEADERS IN

VOTING RIGHTS AND STANDING
UP FOR DEMOCRACY
HOW EQUALITY VOTERS HELPED WIN THE WHITE HOUSE AND CONGRESS
While 2020 brought extraordinary challenges, it was met by the extraordinary strength of everyday
Americans united by the idea of equality. Through early and sustained efforts by the Human Rights Campaign,
Equality Voters - 57 million Americans who prioritize equality when they vote - proved themselves essential to
ensuring pro-equality outcomes in every level of government.
In 2020, 37% of general election voters were Equality Voters, surpassing White Evangelical Voters for
the first time in recorded history.
83% of LGBTQ voters and 79% of Equality Voters supported Joe Biden, and all 2020 Biden voters
viewed equality issues—Donald Trump’s racism and attacks on people of color, immigrants, women, and LGBTQ
people—as the #1 reason to oppose Trump.
Momentum continues to grow for congressional passage of the Equality Act, with 70% of 2020 voters
supporting the legislation, which would provide consistent and explicit anti-discrimination protections for
LGBTQ people and strengthen existing protections for everyone across key areas of life.
Now is the time to advance and continue our sustained efforts to deploy resources and amplify
voices until full legal equality is achieved.
