Married Not Married
By Cathy Arellano
it was just the four of us
Lis, me, Mom, and him
we were having a good time
hanging out at
The House of Music
record store on Telegraph
must have been after a Warriors game in the mid-70s
it was late, dark outside
a few lights inside
we skipped through bins of 33 covers
snap glances at album art
read titles
find the one
great date for a family
except he already had a family
wife, son, daughter
that’s what Mom told us
yelled to him
on the phone
over and over
then went out with him
again and again
without us
then didn’t like
when we didn’t want to talk to him
stopped smiling at him
there he was every morning at 7 o’clock
waiting in front of our flat
to drive her to work
every afternoon at 4 o’clock
waiting in front of 150 Van Ness
to drive her home
