At first the lies were very small,
They hardly seemed to count at all;
But when the lies got bold and grand
They really did get out of hand.
The little princess disappeared
Behind the lies; her parents feared
Some evil spirit was to blame
For bringing them such grief and shame.
The palace doctor shook his head
And to her grieving parents said,
"This girl is just so full of Spunk,
She needs to have her noggin shrunk!"
And so for years they shrunk her brain
Till almost nothing did remain
Of what was once a princess gay
Who loved to dance and sing and play.
The princess now learned what to feel
And what was truth and what was real
And now that she knew what to think
She thought she, too, would be a shrink.
She read her books and thought with glee,
"So this is what was wrong with me!
It has a cause, it has a name!
Oh, how I love this shrinking game!"
She plied her trade, improved her skill
(As smart princesses always will)
She married well and had a child
And yet our princess seldom smiled.
A vague dissatisfaction lay
Beneath her actions every day;
She tried some drugs, a love affair.
But found the answers were not there.
