On Ardis's Deck
Five years ...
the words cling,
then echo
softly ...
I've aged,
you seem to have passed through time
gracefully.
But "seem to's"
may not be reality.
I watch a single star
stand vigil with the moon,
rocked back
on her gently curving
crescent spine.
Luminous shadows
complete the sphere.
Reminders:
the new moon will be born tomorrow,
invisible.
Five years echo
softly ...
You wear pink shoes
with straw woven 'round the sole,
strawberry ice cream,
grass feet.
Brown eyes
still smiling,
and still with an edge of seriousness,
but perhaps now it's the other way 'round.
Maybe,
it always has been .. .
