miraculous birth, died and rose again, were followed by
“apostles” and other striking similarities.
An internet search will turn up quite a few articles by
Christian writers and scholars debunking these claims.
However, according to Kara Cooney, an Egyptologist and
professor at UCLA in Southern California, there are parallels
that are easy to verify, especially where Osiris is concerned.
When comparing Jesus to Osiris, we see both were
gods that were born through a miraculous birth during the
Winter Solstice. According to Cooney, God impregnating a
human in order to duplicate himself for a higher purpose is
quintessential Egyptian storytelling.
Another commonality between the two deities is that
they died and resurrected during the Spring Equinox. After
their untimely and violent deaths, a group of women were
there to mourn and take care of their bodies.
Cooney says Jesus and Osiris also represented the
harvest, a time for rebirth after death. Jesus told his disciples
he was the “Bread of Life,” while Osiris was represented by
wheat.
The list of parallels goes on but when all is said and
done, one has to wonder why the God of the Universe and
Creator of all things would allow the story of his “son” and
“savior of the world” to be even remotely connected to those
of Egyptian gods.
