Jesus: Messiah or Myth? - Book - Page 12
His people about in Tanakh. I can’t think of any reason why if
Jesus were the real deal, his story wouldn’t have been vastly
different so that no comparisons could be made.
Here we are, thousands of years later, still faced with
the facts that the Jesus narrative fits right into Egyptian
polytheistic mythology. Knowing this should at least cause
Christians to take a step back and consider that what they
believe may not be what it appears to be.
Still, if all of that isn’t enough to make a strong case
that Christianity was founded in corruption, one might want
to delve into yet another story in history that mirrors Jesus’
ministry almost to the letter.
Towards the end of the 1st Century, when Jesus lived
and allegedly had his ministry, the Flavian dynasty was in
power, ruled by the Roman Emperor Vespasian and his sons
Titus and Domitian.
The Romans were at war with the Jews, who refused to
comply with Roman rules, especially worshiping the emperors
as gods. During one of the wars between the Jews and
Romans, the Romans captured a Jewish leader named
Josephus, who also was a historian and writer. To save his
own skin, Josephus turned his back on the Jews and joined
forces with the Flavians.
He wound up becoming a friend and advisor to Titus,
who succeeded his father as Emperor of Rome. Josephus
penned several literary works about the Jewish war, Jewish
history and the origins of Christianity.
