Jesus: Messiah or Myth? - Book - Page 35
In order to gain full control of the entire Roman
Empire, Constantine also needed the support of the
Office Corp, as well as the Roman Elite, who belonged to a
mystery cult called Mithraism, in which the Mediterranean
Sun God Mithras was worshipped.
Ultimately, Constantine’s special brand of religion
combined beliefs from Mithraism and Christianity.
The cult of Mithraism was an elite group of male
followers, who prayed to their god, Mithras. There have
been underground Mithraic temples in recent history, which
contain carvings in the walls portraying Mithras with rays
projecting from his head symbolizing the Sun God. This is
strikingly similar to images of Jesus with a halo surrounding
his head.
Here are other similarities to Mithraism and
Christianity:
Sun God slaughters sacrificial bull.
Through shedding of the Sun God’s blood, the universe is
created anew.
Inscription in the Mithraic temple reads, “You have saved us
through the shedding of the eternal blood.”
Blood shedding is seen as an act of salvation.
Mithraic rituals take the body and blood of the sacrifice.
Those who partook gained everlasting life.
