Jesus: Messiah or Myth? - Book - Page 4
Despite the title and content of this book, I always
thought Jesus was a really cool dude. And to be completely
honest, some of his most famously quoted scriptures got me
through some pretty rough times in my life.
When the pain and suffering of my childhood hit me
like a ton of bricks in my early 30s and made me strongly
consider checking out of the Earth Motel, I found strength in
Jesus’ words, such as “So I say to you, ‘Ask and it shall be
given to you, search and you will find; knock and the door will
be opened for you.’” (Matthew 7:7-8).
I also clung to this verse in the gospel of Matthew:
“Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard
seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to
there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for
you.” Matthew 17:20
Throughout my healing journey to become whole again
and find my true purpose, this passage became my
mantra. As these positive and empowering thoughts took
hold in my subconscious mind, I did, many times over,
figuratively move gigantic mountains in my personal life and
career.
So whether Jesus is real or imagined, his
encouragement in the gospels proved to be tremendously
valuable for this wandering soul looking for her reason for
being.
On the flip side, I was a bit confused about the identity
of Jesus and whether or not I should’ve been praying to him
or to the Creator himself. After all, Jesus said numerous times
in the New Testament he wasn’t God. For instance in
2
