Troodos Mountains
There are lots of lovely stop-offs to
explore on the ascent to the Troodos
Mountains. Omodos is one of our
favourites; a beautiful village located
in a valley just before Kato Platres.
It is rich in history, has beautiful
backstreets, craft shops, side-alleys
and a stone-built monastery. Pop into the
house of Socrates if you get the chance,
he’s a real character!
Mount Olympus is the highest point
of the mountains - so make sure to pop
to the top for some beautiful views, walks
and even skiing in the winter season!
Kato Pyrgos
The only Greek Cypriot village located
on Morphou Bay (North-West) and a
delightful day out. Enjoy a long, scenic
drive round the coast right to the west
side of the island with some beautiful
beaches to stop-off at on the way. Kanalli
fish restaurant at Pomos Fisherman’s
Harbour is a perfect lunch spot set in
stunning surroundings. Experience some
truly incredible views on the mountain
drive between Pachyammos and
Mansoura, en route to the quaint and
quiet Kato Pyrgos.
Enjoy exploring the village and take
some snaps of the 122-year-old,
20-metre-high oak tree in the village
square which is the pride of the area.
Explore churches, swim in the crystalclear waters off the coast and enjoy a
drink in one of the charming tavernas.
Chantara Waterfalls, Phini
Phini Village
Phini village is located in the Troodos
Mountains near the springs of the river
Dhiarizos, meaning this picturesque
village has a great range of seasonal
flowers and wild vegetation near the
riverbanks, as well as many beautiful
features associated with traditional
Cypriot Villages.
The 8-metre-tall Chantara Waterfall
is a must-see and is easily accessible
through a short dirt road, which stops
a few meters from the waterfall, or
you can also park in the village and
make a walk of it (about 4km there
and back). Situated in the middle of
the countryside, you can enjoy the
wonderful scents of pine, plane and
strawberry trees, golden oaks, sage,
lavender and more.
The village is renowned for its pottery
(the history of which goes back
for centuries) and stopping off at
Sofronia's Phini Pottery shop is a must.
After exploring the village, waterfall
and pottery delights, the Phini Tavern
is the perfect stop-off for some
excellent Cypriot cuisine.
