... I just happened to get a temp job at Thanet Press after school while
making other career plans in my head. But in working there I found
everything I didn’t know I was looking for. Namely, friendship,
laughter and solidarity – all qualities I realise now were largely
borne out of the bonds fostered by workforce longevity and historic
unionisation. As soon as a permanent job came up a few months
later, I applied straight away as I already knew by that point that I
didn’t want to go elsewhere.”

Thanet Press was pushed into administration by Her Majesty’s Revenue and
Customs, for unpaid tax bills. The archive holds some of the material relating
to these difficult times.
The Thanet Press had become part of the fabric of Thanet’s community
through providing a life-long employment for many of its printers, and
printed material that many people would take for granted as part of their day
to day lives. The ghost of the household name that can still be remembered
in the area, is more fully brought back to life by enjoying some of the
examples of its print. ◊
