THE decision of The Thanet Press to invest in a new building to house
their print rooms and workshops shows the importance that was given to
the process and the amount of space required for the machinery and the
printers. The printers also invested their energy, skills and expertise in these
rooms. The hand drawings made by one of the print workers [73.— 76.]
were collected as part of the oral histories. The memories of this working
environment were formed by familiarity and are still detailed despite a
number of years since the business closed. The drawings show how the
