uring 2019 the University of Kent’s Special Collections and Archives
team had the pleasure and the privilege to collaborate with and
support Appletye in their mission to record the Isle of Thanet’s rich printing
heritage. The end result was to be a physical display in the Templeman
Library in Spring 2020, showcasing materials collected by Appletye
alongside material found in the Special Collections and Archives.

Foreword
The national lockdown resulted in the rapid closure of all non-essential
buildings, including the Library. This meant we had to adapt the planned
event to a digital format, transforming the ‘Print Works’ exhibition into a
series of four illustrated blog posts, https://bit.ly/2RD9zdf.
This beautiful book showcases the immense talent of those involved
in the project and the printing industry. It captures the spirit of the Isle of
Thanet’s printing heritage and ensures it will remain with us for many years
to come.
