Later, Christopher Bradshaw who was Eyre & Spottiswoode chief
designer for 30 years influenced all that was printed by the business. He
was passionate about traditional skills and craftsmanship. He was a founder
of the Printing Historical Society and yet he was also an early advocate of
computer design. He wrote Design (1964) a book on the theory of design,
and later in 1970 was to commission Michael Twyman to write the definitive
book on the print industry, Printing 1770-1970, which was printed by The
