Disturbed with all these thoughts from the past SHE walked up to
the bed and stood watching the old man’s even breath. On a
sudden impulse she moved her hands to his groin with a
purposeful frown. She squeezed him and he woke up startled.
Standing straight she said “ It hurts right? Especially when you
can’t tell anyone what happened. Nobody will believe you. I can
even accuse you of madness !” He looked at her shocked and an
awareness of what was happening washed over him with grief. He
looked away in shame.
“I am sorry appa. But I wanted you to understand the pain. You
should have stood up for us. What made both you & your son just
keep mum? Why should we be the ones taking guard even within
the family? Tell me!” She said as he looked stunned.
“Now I have realised that I could have confronted that MAN
myself too. Somewhere I too chose to play it safe as a daughter in
law, looking up to you men as the heads of the family. I am glad my
little girl grew up with clarity & strength to point this out to me &
call him out, herself.” she added with pride.
“All we want sometimes is to be heard, believed and understood.
That is the only justice possible, especially when time has passed
in finding one’s voice”
SHE saw tears escaping his eyes this time and she somehow felt
sad.
