My name is Cathy Ricci and I am the owner of Avery Ranch Furry
Friends, a pet-sitting company servicing Avery Ranch and a few
nearby neighborhoods. I have been in business now for 11 years. I
am licensed, insured and bonded. We have lived in the Morningside
neighborhood for 12 years. My husband and I moved here from
a small town in south central Massachusetts. My husband was
transferred here for his job at Seagate Technology. I worked in the
accounting field for 15 years prior to moving here. It was a really
tough move for me; I’ve never had to move away from my family
and friends. Our son and daughter had just finished college and had
moved to Long Island, NY. For the first time in our lives, we were
empty nesters.
We moved here with our black Lab, Shelby, whom we just adored.
Shortly after moving here she got very sick and we had to put her
down. We were heartbroken and the house just seemed empty
without her. Because of that experience, I decided then and there
to dedicate my life to taking care of animals, so I started my
pet-sitting business. The name was easy to come up with: Avery
Ranch Furry Friends (ARFF!). I joined Pet Sitters International,
got my business license, insurance/bonding and then started to
advertise. It was very slow at first; it took a while for my name to
get around but it has been a rewarding experience in the long run.
Most of my customers are the result of word-of-mouth referrals.
I have many happy return customers, both two- and four-legged!
We now have two miniature Schnauzers, Molly and Charlie,
whom we consider our sweet little fur babies. You have probably
seen me many times in Morningside, walking them whenever I
have a chance to fit them into my busy schedule!

My business is taking care of animals in the client’s home. I do
not provide boarding for pets, as I am not insured or licensed to
do that. I’ll come to your house, feed, and walk your dogs, or just
have play time in the back yard if they can’t take walks. I also feed
cats, scoop litter, and try to cuddle with them—only if they will
allow it. I also take care of Guinea pigs, hamsters, fish, lizards and
basically most any pet. I will go above and beyond to make sure
your pets are happy and content when I leave them. I love what I
do and I don’t see retiring any day soon. This business keeps me
active, healthy and very happy. I really love animals and all they
give back to me with their unconditional love.
