ACTIVITIES & VOLUNTEERISM
Launch of AA(S) CSN’s Facebook Closed Group
Due to existing social changes brought about by the global impact of the COVID-19
pandemic, face-to-face interaction with people in large groups has now become the
exception as we adhere to safe-distancing measures to contain the spread of the virus.
Society in general is moving towards the acceptance of a new norm where online
activities and teleconferencing is gradually becoming part of our lives.
Autism Association (Singapore) (AA(S)) has also embraced the growing wave of
digitalization and virtual communications when reaching out to parents and caregivers.
Rather than give in to the physical restrictions brought on by the pandemic,
the Family and Life Services (FLS) team undertook a bold move by supplementing its
existing face-to-face interactions with increased caregiver engagements via various virtual
platforms. From the different lines of outreach, the Caregiver Support Network (CSN)
Facebook closed group was launched on 3 May 2021.
The FLS team aims to use the Facebook group as a platform for parents and
caregivers to share posts and words of encouragement with each other; all of them
can easily interact amongst themselves on this Facebook group anytime, anywhere.
The Facebook group is also another channel for the team to publicize their
events and activities organised for parents and caregivers either by the Association or by
other Social Service Agencies.
As this is a closed group for parents and caregivers of clients receiving services rendered
by the FLS team, to ensure a degree of privacy and confidentiality for existing members
of the group, interested participants will have to send a “join” request to the FLS group
administrator for screening and admittance.
