tract, teething, tired, or they
have just realised that they can
do that and are fascinated by
watching their hands move. The
adult however may perceive that
their child must be ready for
solid food, because they are
around that age and that’s one
of the taught signs to start
solids.
The child watches you eat and
may reach out for your food –
they are watching you pop food
into one of the places they love,
and they want to do the same
thing. They don’t know that
what you are having will fill
them up. Nor do they associate
that with being hungry. It’s
more probable that they are
simply seeing you do something
that they want to do because
they love putting things into
their mouth.
Again, it’s our
adult
assumption,
and
the
current teachings that make us
define this as them being ready
for solids, and that they actually
want the food because they are
hungry.
The child easily opens their
mouth when their lips are
touched – given their mouth is
very much reflex driven, nine
times out of ten a baby, or
infant will open their mouth
when stimulated on the lip, and
again, it’s us that attunes this
to them being hungry. This
reflex can also have parents
