Tongue & Lip Ties Preview - Flipbook - Page 5
My story, my why
Elijah was three weeks old. Breastfeeding
was a glorious experience. My milk was
flowing, Elijah was gaining weight and I was
in heaven – feeding my baby after being
told I would never have children, nor do the
one thing I longed to do after a career of
helping newborns and mother’s breastfeed.
But that bliss, which I still treasure, was
short lived.
By week four my milk supply had
plummeted, and Elijah’s weight was
standing still. This was the first time I even
considered lip or tongue tie, because all
had been going well. On investigating
Elijah’s mouth, I discovered he had a lip
tie. Thrown into the questions of whatto-do, not wanting to hurt my child but
wanting to breastfeed for a multitude of
positive reasons, I decided to get the lip
tie procedure for him, hopeful that our
breastfeeding journey would continue.
