Salisbury University’s Fulton School of
Liberal Arts prepares students for the future.
The largest and most diverse of SU’s four
endowed schools, it plays a vital role in the
academic experience of nearly every SU student as home to the visual and performing
arts, humanities and social sciences.
“As a major in the Fulton School, you have
the opportunity to expand your knowledge of
our diverse world while developing essential
skills that enable you to make the most of your
life – personally, professionally and as a com-
munity member,” says Maarten Pereboom,
Ph.D., Fulton School dean. “You can explore a
terrific variety of enriching experiences.”
Undergraduatesunlocktheirtalents,choosing from 18 majors and over 40 minors from
12 Fulton departments (Art; Communication;
Conflict Analysis and Dispute Resolution
(CADR); English; Environmental Studies;
History; Modern Languages; Music, Theatre,
and Dance; Philosophy; Political Science;
Psychology; and Sociology).
The Fulton School also offers a post-baccalaureate certificate in Teaching English to
Speakers of Other Languages, and three graduate programs in CADR, English and History.

combined with high-impact experiences.
History students work closely with SU’s
Nabb Research Center for Delmarva History
and Culture. Political science majors intern
with the Maryland General Assembly, The
Washington Center and on Capitol Hill.
CADR students train with SU’s Bosserman
Center for Conflict Resolution, a United
Nations Regional Center of Expertise.
Environmental studies capstone projects
have worked with the Maryland Department
of Natural Resources on shoreline feasibility
studies and the City of Salisbury on sustainability needs. Fulton also offers a Certified
Nonprofit Professional credential.
SU facilities support creative activity in
music, television, film, drawing, painting,
photography and printmaking. This year,
a 3-D Arts Building opened on SU’s East
Campus, creating additional space for sculpture and (soon) glass and ceramics.
The Art department also expanded its B.F.A. track in graphic design at the
Universities at Shady Grove. New interdisciplinary minors include user experience and
Africana studies.
The Communication department offers
five industry-relevant tracks, and practicums.
English majors explore areas including creative writing, film or secondary education,
and many publish their work, even as undergraduates. Music, theatre and dance students
showcase their talents in performances and
competitions. One graduate will appear on
American Idol’s upcoming Season 20!
With a 15:1 student to faculty ratio, Fulton
students benefit from dedicated advisors as
they build foundational skills in research,
analysis, leadership and technology.
SU’s Fulton School attracts and supports
students from diverse backgrounds with a
commitment to diversity in curriculum and
programming. The only SU school with a
foreign language requirement, Fulton faculty have led short and semester-long study
abroad programs to places such as Scotland,
Italy, India, Argentina, Vietnam and Iceland.
Students, faculty and staff also are active with
SU’s Center for Equity, Justice and Inclusion.
“I feel especially gratified to see how our
students grow in talent, maturity and professionalism over the course of their experience
at SU,” says Pereboom. For the community,
SU’s Fulton School is a cultural hub with
exhibits, lectures, symposiums, and music and
theatre lessons for all ages. SU is home to the
Salisbury Symphony Orchestra, Bobbi Biron
Theatre Program and four art galleries.
“Our extensive public programming serves
both the campus and wider community,” says
Chrys Egan, Ph.D., Fulton School associate
dean. “The Fulton School nurtures lifetime
learning for a diverse, global future of wellrounded individuals.”

Martha N. Fulton more than 30 years ago,
