Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival
May 4-5: The festival, held at the Howard
County Fairgrounds, is packed with activities
ranging from shepherd workshops and sheepdog demonstrations to a spinning competition
and the Sheep-to-Shawl contest, where teams
shear a sheep, spin the fleece and weave it into

M3 Rock Festival
May 4-5: Do you want to party like it’s the
1980s? Two days of rock ’n’ roll and heavy
metal music will transport you back in time.

Wine in the Woods
May 18-19: One of the premier events in
the region and a source of pride for Howard
County for over 20 years. Wine in the Woods
is now the largest wine festival in Maryland
with live music, food and samples from over
30 Maryland wineries. Beer drinkers can enjoy
this festival, too. Local breweries sell beers for
purchase. Symphony Woods at Merriweather

Capital Jazz Fest
June 7-9: For the 31st year, jazz artists
perform at Merriweather Post Pavilion for
three days. The Festival Marketplace features

Columbia Festival of the Arts
An annual celebration of the arts in a broad
spectrum of art forms and cultures, encouraging interaction among artists and audiences.
The festival is a multi-weekend event that celebrates music, art, and entertainment. Events
kick off in June with Lakefest, a free, three-day
outdoor celebration at the Downtown Columbia Lakefront. 410-715-3044.

Paint It! Ellicott City
Come out as artists take to the streets of
Historic Ellicott City in June to participate
in the plein air event. Also known as a paintout, this event brings artists outside to paint
directly from life, without the aid of photography. The weekend draws many spectators to
Main Street’s sidewalks. Spectators can follow
the artists as they set up their easels around
Ellicott City’s historic district and paint the
picturesque mill town. The event culminates
in an exhibit at the Howard County Center for

Fourth of July Festival and Fireworks
A live band starts at 7 p.m., followed by a
22-minute fireworks display at dark over Lake
