“I’ve always been
interested in the
nuances of policy
development and
advocacy at local, state,
and federal levels.
Strategic advocacy can
influence housing policies to ensure
affordability and accessibility for lowincome families. I’m also learning how
to organize so those we serve can use
their power and voice for change. This
knowledge is pivotal for championing
policies that eradicate homelessness
and expand affordable housing
options.”
“I have always wanted
to learn to identify all
the regional birds by
sight and song. There is
something so pleasing
and poetic to me about
wild birds. Because I
learn most easily through words and
stories, it’s a challenge to get these
facts into my long-term memory. I
keep a lookout during my walks and a
full bird feeder on the deck, imagining
their conversations and relationships
while I page through the field guide.”
“As someone with a
serious sweet tooth, I’ve
always wanted to learn
how to bake well,
especially breads and
cakes. While I can whip
up a decent batch of
cookies for myself, they usually aren’t
quite presentable — or dare I say,
palatable— to others. Now that I’m a
new mom and thinking about my
baby’s birthdays and other parties, it
would be fun and immensely useful
to master a few good recipes that I
can be proud of and confident in
enjoying and sharing with others.”
