As you get older, your risk of severe illness from COVID-19
increases. Having other medical conditions such as cancer, lung
issues such as COPD, kidney disease, serious heart conditions,
diabetes, immune or blood disorders, and obesity also increase
your risk.

COVID-19 is spread through small droplets released when an
infected person talks, sneezes, or coughs. It can be spread by
people with no symptoms, or before they have symptoms. You
may also be able to get it by touching a surface that has the virus
on it, then touching your eyes, nose, or mouth, but this is not
thought to be the main way the virus spreads.
The best ways to reduce your risk of COVID-19:
•Have less in-person contact with others outside your
home.
•When you do go out, take precautions.
•Avoid close contact with people who are not in your
household. This means standing more than 6 feet away
from others. If that’s not possible, spend less than 15
minutes close to them.
•Wear face coverings over your mouth and nose as often
as possible in all indoor public spaces or whenever social
distancing is difficult.
•Wash your hands often for at least 20 seconds or use
sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol when you can’t wash.
