Jewelry that sparkles and glitters
makes the perfect gift

veryone needs a little sparkle in their
life. This year, all that glitters is not
just gold – it’s sterling silver, mixed
metals, and new metals in bold pieces and
layering styles.
Jewelry industry and fashion experts say the
trend continues to be layering and stacking jewelry,
like bracelets and necklaces. In costume jewelry, it’s
not unusual to see wrap-around bracelets stacked
in various colors or chunky bangles all the way up
the arm.
Amanda Gill, owner of Boutique 44 in Bel Air, says
her store carries several lines of jewelry and she’s
seeing bold pieces and big earrings. The 18K gold
fringe earrings are one example. (photo 1) In addition, young ladies with multiple ear piercings love to
receive any type of earring – from “huggies” – small

dangly earrings.
Gill says silver jewelry is on the rise, as is the
practice of combining both silver and gold pieces in
one necklace or bracelet, or simply wearing the two
together. The store offers gun metal bangles with
sparkle.(Photo 3) Boutique 44 also has a variety of
celestial designs that add stars, planets and moons,
another industry trend. Stars on bangles, necklaces and earrings make a statement to the universe.
(Photos 4, 5, 6) “We also have some delicate bracelets with charms and an adjustable sized bracelet that
make excellent gifts,” she says.

Saxon’s Diamond Centers says best sellers
around holiday time are – you guessed it – diamonds!
Although we think of diamond rings, store manager Kimberly Gross says it’s also the season for
diamond tennis bracelets, diamond stud earrings and
diamond solitaire necklaces. Saxon’s offers a variety
of all three. (Photos 10, 11, 12)
Additionally, she notes that popular this season
is the “station necklace,” a chain that has diamonds
studded at various intervals on the chain itself.
Gross recommends Saxon’s Gabrielle line and Shy
line of jewelry pieces. Targeted to young ladies in
the 20-40-something age group, she describes the
selections as “petite jewelry.” “They are smaller and
more delicate. We are also seeing a trend in bridal

toward dainty pieces of jewelry,” Gross says. “Even
the rings have a more refined diamond band, then the
larger diamond showcased in the middle.”
What about jewelry gifts for guys? Gross says,
“You can’t go wrong with a watch. Guys still collect
watches, and they love to wear them. Cufflinks are
a thing of the past, except for weddings. People
are working at home and dressing more casually.”
(Photo 13) Gross also notes the curb-link and Miami
Cedar chain necklaces in yellow gold are great gifts
for young men. She recommends diamond rings for
gentlemen who wish to have a right-hand ring. “There
are also sapphire and ruby rings, but diamond is really
more typical.”
