NO.2 Tiber Technologies
At Tiber Technologies, a highly trained cohort
of engineers, developers and other experts who
specialize in defense software solutions have
formed a unique work culture and found success.
Given the high stakes, Tiber’s leadership makes
every effort to create an ideal environment in its
Ellicott City office to help achieve its collective
goals.
“Employees feel valued and get a sense that
their input matters,” said Mark Nester, a director
who co-founded the business with Chris Berger
in 2012.
Today, Tiber has a team of about 50 employees
and expects to grow.
“Tiber has become a destination in recent years
due to our commitment to hiring top-tier technical employees and supporting our employees both in and out of the workplace,” said Jim
Malone, the chief operating officer. “We take time

to get to know our employees and their career
goals and also spend time understanding what’s
important to them outside of work. We care
about our employees as people first, and that has
built Tiber’s reputation with both our employees and industry partners as a company that can
be trusted to get the mission done and do it the
right way.”
This approach is embodied in Tiber’s senior
managers and woven throughout the company
across all of its business areas.
For instance, Tiber looks for special ways to
recognize its employees’ accomplishments and
milestones.
Workers receive cash bonuses for completion of a degree program or attainment of a new
technical certification. Employees who reach a
significant work anniversary choose a special gift
to celebrate the occasion, such as a virtual real-
ity entertainment system, a set of golf clubs or a
weekend getaway.
In addition, Tiber employees and their spouses
are invited to attend an annual off-site trip.
“Our employees and families have a chance
to bond outside of the work environment and
discuss future opportunities and development
in a fun, comfortable setting,” Malone said. “Most
importantly, it allows our employees time for
much-deserved relaxation.”
Those aren’t the only perks, Nester said, ticking
off smaller-scale events ranging from a mini-golf
tournament and pingpong challenge to a bocce
ball contest and waterslide races.
”I have fond memories from past employee
events,” Malone said. “Tiber can only provide
the venue, but what makes them truly fun and
rewarding is the interaction between employees
and the memories that are created.”
