Program Description and Notes
A federal program for people aged 65 or older,
or blind or disabled, unable to work and also
meets income and asset limits. Administered by
Social Security Administration. Provides monthly
payments. Persons receiving SSI automatically
receive Medical Assistance. For information or to

New Benefit: Compassionate Allowance
initiative for individuals with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. For
those generally diagnosed under the age of 65
years old.

Provides zero-interest loans to modify a home
space for an older adult (age 55 or older). Loan
payments are deferred for 30 years or until the
sale or transfer of ownership of the home. If the
older adult resides in home of a relative, eligibility
is based on the owner’s income.

Senior Assisted Living Subsidy Program

Provides financial assistance for a limited number

Assists non-elderly persons with disabilities
and must be one of the following: transitioning
out of institutional or other separated settings;
at serious risk of institutionalization; currently
experiencing homelessness; previously experienced homelessness and currently a client in a
permanent supportive housing project; or at risk
of becoming homeless.
This program helps to further the goals of the
Americans with Disabilities Act by helping persons
with disabilities live in the most integrated setting.
The program also encourages partnerships
with health and human service agencies with a
demonstrated capacity to coordinate voluntary
services and supports to enable individuals to live
independently in the community.
