A MESSAGE FROM THE DEPARTMENT
This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the Carroll County Bureau of Aging & Disabilities. The
Bureau of Aging & Disabilities has become a cornerstone of the community - a trusted resource for
information and assistance regarding services for older adults, caregivers, Veterans, and people with
disabilities. As part of our yearlong anniversary celebration, we will be hosting special events and
programs throughout our five senior and community centers and Bureau, showcasing our services
as you have previously known them, and highlighting our post-COVID improvements allowing you
better access. To further our celebration, we have an exciting community initiative that will positively
impact aging in Carroll County for years to come.
What better way to celebrate our 50th anniversary than to bring our community together on a
new journey through AARP’s Age-Friendly Community Initiative. The Bureau of Aging & Disabilities
(BOAD) has been invited to join the AARP Age-Friendly Network. This select Network of AgeFriendly Communities was launched in 2012 and operates under the guidance of the World Health
Organization’s Age-Friendly Cities and Communities Program. The Network serves to educate,
encourage, and recognize the improvements that make cities, towns, and counties more supportive
of older adults and people of all ages.
The AARP Age-Friendly Community initiative is a 5+ year commitment that will engage you, and all
Carroll Countians to help inform the evolution of a livable community where residents of all ages
and abilities are able to thrive through civic, economic, and social connection. Engaging community
members, organizations, public entities, and private businesses throughout the initiative is essential
to developing and implementing an action plan which will drive our efforts to assist residents to live
easily and comfortably in their homes and communities as they age. Please check our website for
Age-Friendly Community initiative updates (www.carrollcountymd.gov/aging-and-disabilities).
Whether you need to find your local Senior & Community Center; identify home care service
providers, local health care facilities, or Veteran resources; or locate transportation and housing
options; our expert staff are here to help. Please call (410-386-3800) for assistance in navigating the
aging and disabilities service delivery system or to review home and community-based care options
for you or your loved one.
LET US HELP YOU TO AGE TIMELESSLY.
