Lloyd Estrada (below) the global advocate for
Bible engagement with the World Evangelical
Alliance (WEA) a network of similar thought
across one hundred and thirty countries, a
catalyst for perhaps a second Reformation
that will be centred around the word of the
Lord united by the grace, the power and the
wisdom of God; adding .. 'by the blessing of
the Holy Spirit, we can make this happen.'
As part of the initiative, it is envisaged that
several large stadia-sized events will be
arranged by various organisations in which
thousands will be invited to come along to
pray and worship; hopefully then in turn to
facilitate partnerships between like-minded
groups worldwide and graciously, accelerate
Biblical literacy efforts.
As well as the WEA many other global
organisations including Wycliffe Bible
Translators, Youth with a Mission,
American Bible Society and Call2All, each
had representatives at the launch in the
USA capital, with over five hundred
leaders and organisations all endorsing
A.D. 2020 as the Global Year of the Bible.
Whilst there have been other 'Year of the
Bible' efforts held in the past, as far back as
1983, there has never been such a global
initiative which will be more comprehensive;
this is perhaps the largest effort of its kind
whereby the Word of God can be further
expanded in so many different forms and oral
presentations and has come to fruition as a
result of hundreds of global leaders talking for
years about how to help people engage the
Holy Scriptures once are translated into a
language. It is then hoped that many more will
benefit from certain translations and speak
languages that are only verbally
communicated.
The President of the Wycliffe
Bible Translators also stated
that .. 'there is not a lot of low
hanging fruit out there any
longer but it is going to take
creative strategies and a
continuance to take prayer as
well as men and women who are willing to
be courageous to reach the last and the
lost.'
It will culminate with the envisaged six goals
pursued by the A.D. 2020 Year of the Bible
movement, which re: to pray, to translate, to
publish, to distribute, to educate and to
motivate people so they can engage with
God’s word.
Whilst discussions have been on-going
for at least two decades this initiative
finally commenced formalisation within
the last four years thereby allowing the
Wycliffe Organisation to predict that
almost one hundred-per-cent of the total
translation will be completed by 2033.
The event also had its sights particularly
focused on today’s generation of youngsters,
growing up in countries that traditionally have
Christian heritages, including the United State
and various others where cultures that have
been historically Christian, increasingly
today's young people are now growing up
without exposure to, or knowledge of, the
Holy Bible, due to the fact that many current
school educational curricula do not include
biblical modules or even make any references
in the popular culture, about the Bible.
Unfortunately too many young people
still remain far more engaged in seeking
fulfilment in their careers, money,
entertainment or drugs, without
knowing that the Holy Bible
promises greater direction
through service to the Lord,
whereby the Word of God
teaches us that Jesus Christ
came into the world so that
everyone, young and not so
