This course enables you to analyse a wide variety of media
products, which may include advertising, film, radio, video
games, newspapers and online media.
You will develop knowledge and understanding of media
language, representation, audience and industrial and
cultural contexts. You will gain the skills necessary for

mainstream texts and three specialist
texts of three industries; television,
magazines and online media
• Media has four key areas of study that
will be applied to each media text:
• 70% exam
• 30% coursework, including a practical
production piece and evaluation
- Media Language and how to analyse
and deconstruct media products.
- Representations - exploring the
historical context of media products
and how media producers construct
images and texts to convey
messages to audiences.
- Industry - how media businesses,
from Disney as a powerful
Hollywood studio to a YouTube
Vlogger, make content and, more
importantly, make money.
- Audiences - how media products
attract, appeal and target specific
audiences and how media
audiences are not all the same.
