GCSE GRADES
A brief guide for parents and carers
GCSEs in England have been reformed to keep pace with university and employer demands.
The new GCSE grade scale below shows the comparison to the old GCSE grade scale.
The new scale has more higher grades compared to the old grade scale, to better distinguish
between students of different abilities. The reform has been phased in over a number of
years and all reformed GCSE subjects have now moved to the new grade scale.
Please see the diagram below which shows the comparable grades from the old to the new
scale, which you may find useful.
