Following COP26, the topic
of decarbonisation has
intensified due to times of
a global energy crisis and
geopolitical turmoil, but
businesses must still lead
the UK’s transition to net
zero. CAE and I are conscious
we need to play our part.
CAE recognise that the climate crisis
is the most significant global issue of
our time. According to the UN’s climate
report, there is a risk that the Paris
Agreement’s 1.5 degree target will be
exceeded within 10-20 years.
CAE have already committed to be net
zero by 2050 but have the target to
publish plans this year to achieve net
zero by 2030.
Measuring our current carbon output
has been the first step towards our goal
of achieving net zero and the results are
promising. We can say with confidence
that, with a combination of smart energy
usage, waste management and offset,
our aim is to become Carbon Neutral
within this financial year!
As we journey through life ‘post COVID’,
more questions need to be asked of
how every day decisions impact our
environment. Cutting back on car
journeys, reducing paper use… these are
obvious, but even smaller actions can
make a big difference.
Consider the following:
A standard email equates to about
4 g CO2e, an email with large
attachments is about 50 g CO2e.
This means that a day’s worth of
emails received can equal to 1,652
g CO2e…
And that one year’s worth of
emails received equals 603,393 g
CO2e = 0.6 tonnes CO2e
To put this into
perspective, the total
yearly carbon footprint
of the average person
living in India is approx
1.5 tonnes CO2e
(Canbonliteracy.com (Climate
Outreach)).
Makes you think…
