Nest Box Trail through Harrington Forest
Council has installed 10 nest boxes within mature Eucalypt trees in Harrington Forest as part of a restoration project. The nest
boxes were decorated by students from a local primary school and childcare centres / preschools to create cosy homes for our
wildlife. A nest box trail map was developed to allow the students, their families and the community to spot the nest boxes while
enjoying a walk through Harrington Forest.
Nest boxes are important as tree hollows can take up to 100 years to form naturally in trees. Providing nest boxes until hollows can
form is an important way to ensure that animals and birds have the habitat they need for shelter and to raise a family.
