What is a Green and Blue Grid?
The Green Grid
The Blue Grid
The Green and Blue Grid is a
network of open spaces which
includes parks, playing fields,
urban tree canopy, bushland,
creeks, lakes and rivers. The
Green and Blue Grid comprises
of natural and man-made
features (such as constructed
wetlands, rain gardens and
water features).
When protected and enhanced,
these areas:
1. Natural bushland
and national parks
2. Tree lined streets
4. Well designed
parks, reserves
and playing fields
5. Shaded cycleways 6. Town Centres and
and walking
road infrastructure
tracks
that accommodate
trees and vegetation
3. Rural Land
1. Lakes
2. Natural wetlands*
3. Rivers
4. Farm dams
• Provide biodiversity and
habitat corridors;
• Help the urban environment
to cool;
• Contribute to cleaner air and
waterways;
• Provide new opportunities
for community recreation;
and
• Offer walking and cycling
connections; and
• Support improved physical,
social and physiological
health.
As the population grows, the
connectivity and accessibility
of Camden’s Green and Blue
Grid will become increasingly
important to support a liveable
and sustainable Camden.
