Jessica Desmoulin
Ojibway
Jessica was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on September 18, 1978. She is Ojibway of the Pic River First Nation. As a
child she lived in Rochester, Alberta and later in Sparwood, British Columbia. After the birth of her second child, Jessica
developed an illness that left her unable to work outside the home. Jessica took this opportunity to approach her art
seriously and began to paint canvas. She credits the love and support of her family for allowing her the chance to explore
her love of art. Jessica currently lives in Edmonton, Alberta.
Jessica est née à Saskatoon, au centre de la Saskatchewan le 18 septembre 1978. Elle est Ojibwée de la Première nation de Pic
River. Enfant, elle a vécu à Rochester, dans l’Alberta et puis à Sparwood, en Colombie-Britannique. Après la naissance de son
deuxième enfant, Jessica a développé une maladie qui l’a rendue incapable de travailler à l’extérieur de la maison. Jessica a
saisi cette occasion pour se pencher sur son art de façon sérieuse et a commencé à peindre des toiles. Elle reconnaît l’amour
et le soutien de sa famille qui lui a donné la chance d’explorer son amour pour l’art. Jessica vit actuellement à Edmonton, dans
l’Alberta.

A young artist from the Nlakapamux Nation. His painting style mixes graffiti style with Coast Salish design creating figurative
and abstract images that speak to resistance and renewal. His beginnings as a graffiti artist is central to his style and since
his switch from walls to canvas three years ago he has brought this energy from the streets into his paintings. ‘My work
relates my spiritual path; my journey. I express the inspiration lovingly given to me through teachings and stories from my
elders and mentors. My work embodies the powerful visions that I have been given through these teachings. I am grateful.
My work is a modern expression embodying the symbolic abstract inspired by my home: Coast Salish Territory.’
Andrew est un jeune artiste de la Nation Nlakapamux. Son style est un métissage du graffiti et de design Coast Salish, réalisant
des images figuratives et abstraites qui font le récit de la résistance et du renouveau. Ses débuts comme artiste graffiti sont
au coeur de son oeuvre; Depuis son passage des murs à la toile il y a trois ans, il a tenté de porter avec lui l’énergie de la rue.
“Mon oeuvre relate mon cheminement spirituel; mon voyage. Je tiens à exprimer les enseignements que m’ont donné me aînés
et mentors avec amour. Mon travail incarne la puissance des visions que j’ai eu grâce à cette sagesse. Je suis reconnaissant.
Mon oeuvre est une expression moderne qui incorpore le symbolisme abstrait inspiré par ma patrie: Le territoire Coast Salish.”
Francis Dick
Musqamakw Dzawadaenutw Band/ Kwakwaka’wakw
Born in 1959 into the Musqamakw Dzawadaenutw Band (the four tribes of Kingcome Inlet), Francis Dick is a contemporary
aboriginal artist and a member of the Kwakwaka’wakw Nation. She is a descendant of the supernatural Wolf, Kawadelekala,
who became the first of the Kingcome people. Francis began her career as a social worker after receiving her degree from
the University of Victoria, but quickly realized that her true calling in life was to honour her natural artistic talents.
Née en 1959 dans la bande Dzawadaenutw Musqamakw (les quatre tribus de Kingcome Inlet), Francis Dick est une artiste
autochtone contemporaine et membre de la nation Kwakwaka’wakw. Elle est de descendance du loup surnaturel, Kawadelekala,
qui est devenu le premier de la tribu Kingcome. Francis a commencé sa carrière en tant que travailleuse sociale après avoir
reçu son diplôme de l’Université de Victoria, mais s’est vite rendu compte que sa véritable vocation dans la vie était d’honorer
ses talents artistiques naturels.
