Gerry Sheena
Coast Salish
Gerry Sheena was born April 13th, 1964, in Merritt, BC. He is a member of the Coast Salish Nation and has been carving since
1990. Growing up, he spent hours watching his brother, Roger Swaikum, carve, and though he’s mainly self-taught, Gerry has
received some guidance from Henry McKay, and renowned Kwakwaka’wakw artist, Stan Hunt III. Gerry attended the Emily Carr
School for two years and Langara Community College for one year where his studies focused upon the Fine Arts.
Gerry Sheena est né le 13 avril 1964 à Merritt, en Colombie-Britannique. Il est membre de la nation Salish de la côte et
sculpte depuis 1990. En grandissant, il a passé des heures à regarder son frère, Roger Swaikum, sculpter, et bien qu’il soit
principalement autodidacte, Gerry a reçu quelques conseils de Henry McKay et de l’artiste renommé Kwakwaka’wakw, Stan
Hunt III. Hunt a notamment aidé Sheena à peaufiner ses détails, ce qui se reflète dans la superbe finition de ses pièces
actuelles. Gerry a fréquenté l’école Emily Carr pendant deux ans et le Langara Community College pendant un an où ses études
étaient axées sur les beaux-arts.
Richard Shorty
Northern Tutchone
Richard was born in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory in 1959 and belongs to Kwanlin Dun First Nation. Richard is a self taught artist. He originally
started painting wildlife at an early age along with painting his favorite rock star or sports idol. In 1978, Richard moved to Vancouver. In the
early 1980’s, Richard started painting West Coast Native design and soon developed his own distinct, style, using the wildlife form of the
animal and adding his native design on the inside of the form. By now, stores were asking for and purchasing his work. Today, Richard is one
of the most sought after Native artists, with works in many galleries throughout. His pieces are collected internationally.

Richard est né à Whitehorse, dans les territoire du Yukon en 1959 et fait partit de l’autochtone du nord. Richard est un artiste autodidacte.
Il peignait la faune dès son jeune âge ainsi que ses idoles sportifs et artistes rock préférés. En 1978, Richard déménage à Vancouver.
Au début des années 80, Richard a commencé à peindre des designs autochtones de la côte ouest et par la suite développa son propre
style distinct, utilisant la forme animale de la faune et en insérant un design indigène à l’intérieur de la forme. Depuis ce temps, les
magasins en demandent et achètent ses œuvres. Au cours des années, Richard déménage souvent – sur l’île de Vancouver, à Richmond,
à Whitehorse, mais toujours en revenant à Vancouver. Aujourd’hui, Richard est un des artistes autochtones les plus recherchés, ses œuvres
étant mis en exposition dans plusieurs galeries. Il est très versatile, il travaille sur tambours, pagaies, masques, hochets en plus de ses
tableaux. Ses pièces sont collectionnées au niveau international.
Terrence Shorty
Northern Tutchone
Terrence Cory Shorty was born August 14th, 1986 in Whitehorse, Yukon. Terrence is a Yukon First Nations of Northern
Tutchone, Norwegian and French descent. He is originally from Whitehorse, Yukon where he is connected with his First
Nations roots through traditional practices, like living on the land and hunting for sustenance. Terrence comes from an
artistic family background full of painters. He began painting in the northwest coast style when he was living in Edmonton,
Alberta in 2005. Terrence then moved to Vancouver where he really began to acquire and improve on his painting skills.
Terrence Cory Shorty est né le 14 août 1986 à Whitehorse, au Yukon. Terrence est une Première Nation du Yukon d’ascendance
tutchone du nord, norvégienne et française. Il est originaire de Whitehorse, au Yukon, où il est lié à ses racines autochtones par
des pratiques traditionnelles, comme vivre sur la terre et chasser pour se nourrir. Terrence vient d’un milieu familial artistique
plein de peintres. Il a commencé à peindre dans le style de la côte nord-ouest lorsqu’il vivait à Edmonton, en Alberta, en 2005.
Terrence a ensuite déménagé à Vancouver où il a vraiment commencé à acquérir et à améliorer ses compétences en peinture.
