Pathway to an Associate of Science
in Healthcare Sciences
Students who have successfully passed the
American Association of Medical Assistants
(AAMA) national certification exam (CMA) or
the AAPC national certification exam (CPC)
may be able to receive 12 credits through
credential assessment.
Medical assistants work alongside physicians, mainly in outpatient care facilities, such as medical
offices and clinics. Medical assistants are cross-trained to perform administrative and clinical duties.
Cecil College’s program prepares students for national certification. Upon successful completion of
the program, the student will sit for the AAMA exam to become a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA).
Scholarships and financial aid may be available to those who qualify.
Program Goals and Expectations
To prepare medical assistants who are competent in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor
(skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains to enter the profession.
