complaining, and condemning? Are we creating
an environment where people feel disrespected, or
they’re not heard or listened to, or appreciated? One
of the main reasons people leave organizations is
because they don’t feel appreciated. This is why Dale
Carnegie’s strategies that have been guiding people
for over 100 years are maybe even more valuable
today than they have ever been.
What are some of the key principles? Just reel off a
couple so people can hear them.
One of the most important of Dale Carnegie’s
principles in my mind is Principle 17, which is “Try
honestly to see things from another person’s point
of view.” So when we talk about empathy, we talk

about inclusion, that begins with our attempt to
understand and to listen and to value who you are.
Sites like Glassdoor have created transparency
around organizations and their cultures; these are
things that exist today that didn’t exist before. So,
if an organization isn’t empathetic, if it doesn’t care
about its people, if it doesn’t invest in its people,
much of that comes down to that principle that you’re
asking about, which, in my mind, is one of the most
important ones.
What’s an example of a company or leader who
