CELEBRATION OF PHILANTHROPY CONTINUED
Boots on the Ground Award: Janice Keating
8
Janice Keating has the uncanny ability to be everywhere she
needs to be for everyone who needs her. The inexhaustible
volunteer has worked with the Girl Scouts, Mission of Peace,
Catholic Charities, Downtown Hope’s “Love Annapolis,” The
Food Bridge in Anne Arundel County, and Anne Arundel County
Public Schools. Keating’s reach extends beyond our county to the
streets of Baltimore and Appalachia. Countless organizations
have benefitted from Keating’s services and wide-spread impact.
Carroll H. Hynson Jr. Award in Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in
Philanthropy: Martha Blaxall
9
Over the years, Martha Blaxall, has helped advance the work of
myriad Anne Arundel County nonprofits. Most recently, Blaxall
devoted more than 200 hours to help plan and implement the
Banneker-Douglass Museum's Anti-Racism Initiative Campaign
and she is currently leading the Arts Council of Anne Arundel
County's Board Task Force on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and
Accessibility. Blaxall also is a longtime member of Anne Arundel
Women Giving Together, a local women’s giving circle. This
award is named in honor of Carroll H. Hynson, Jr., founding
CFAAC Board Member and longest-running host of the
Celebration of Philanthropy Awards Luncheon.
Legacy Award for Planned Giving: Cindy Pond
10
It’s safe to say that the late Cindy Pond loved animals and loved
people. Pond passed away in March of 2020 and left significant
gifts to the Anne Arundel County SPCA and the Anne Arundel
County Food Bank (AACFB). Pond was concerned about the
local population who suffered from food insecurity and
volunteered at AACFB with her sister, Christine Pokorny. Her
planned gift allowed the Food Bank to build much needed
volunteer office space. A plaque outside the door of the new
office pays tribute to the devoted volunteer and donor.
