CFA Activities around Australia
ACT CFA President’s Report
The year kicked off for the Canberrabased committee on Tuesday 19th
February with an exceptional turnout
with approximately 190 registrations
for the ACT Information Roadshow.
This resulted in 66 applications
from interested ACT citizens and 8
awardees across a broad spectrum of
interests and projects.
I also attended the Wagga Wagga
information evening on Monday 25th
February with a small but interesting
group of attendees.
Thursday 4th April saw me attend the
CFA Presidents Forum in Hobart as
a prelude to the wonderful Churchill
Convention which took place 5-7
April in Hobart. Several of the ACT
CFA attended what was an amazing
few days and our congratulations
must go out again to our Tasmanian
colleagues for organising such a
fantastic and engaging event.
Whilst I extricated myself from a
Canberra mid-winter spending a
month in Italy, the ACT Committee
remained hard at work with a
Churchill Chat being held at a local
café/restaurant in early July.

2019-20 Annual Report
The event featured industry guest
speakers and was well attended
by hardy Canberrans not afraid to
venture out into the brisk winter
evening.
One of the features the ACT CFA
wanted to embrace was to highlight
how a Churchill Fellow has integrated
their Fellowship into their everyday
work lives. This saw us liaise with
2017 Fellow Peggy McDonald
who graciously opened her Raptor
Rehabilitation Centre in the Southern
Highlands of NSW on 8th September
to 18 ACT & NSW Fellows for an
amazing perspective on her work
with injured raptors.
As fate would have it, a wild storm hit
the evening before which knocked
out power to her bushland property,
however whilst we weren’t able to
enjoy her slide presentation, we did
spend a wonderful few hours viewing
her facility and the raptors in her care.
Our 2019 Annual Dinner held on
Friday October 25th was, for the first
time, held at the Royal Golf Club in
Yarralumla. The dinner, MC’d by the
effervescent Andrea Ho, highlighted
the travels of recently returned ACT
Fellows in an interview style Q&A and
provided an opportunity to introduce
our new 2019 awardees.
Our final event, ACT CFA “Drinks on
the House” held stand up and casual
on Friday 6th December at our much
utilised favourite café, Teddy Pickers
in Campbell completed another very
busy year for the committee.
I would like to extend my sincere
thanks to the 2019 ACT Committee
for the corporation and support,
especially to Sarah May our
Secretary who stepped down due
to work commitments. I’d also like
to welcome our newest committee
members, Kerry, Courtney, Katrina,
Kate and Peter. Thank you all for
putting your hand up to support the
work of the Committee in the coming
year.
