WA CFA President’s Report
The purpose of the WA Churchill
Fellows Association is to build the
WA Fellows network. In particular,
to nurture new Fellows and support
returning Fellows to maximise the
impact of their Fellowships across
Australia with 2019 being no
exception.
The CFA WA Committee is very
much a collaborative team. The
group is made up by Troy Kirkham
(Vice President), Ricki Smith
(Treasurer), Mark Ritchie (Secretary)
and committee members Kanthi
Perera, Tim McClennan, Anna
Hilyard, Mike Bell, Emilia Galatis
and Shelly Dival.
We welcomed Fellows old and
new to the AGM in October which
included a social gathering after
the business meeting where many
of our 2019 Fellows were able to
connect with their peers over pizza
and wine and hear first-hand of the
experiences of others.
This was followed by the Annual
Dinner where the 2019 Fellows
gave a short presentation of their
topics; with 14 Fellows studying
topics across health, farming,
police, and energy.
We are again proud of the
contribution West Australians will
have on our country and, through
engagement with others during
their travels, the world.
It was also a bittersweet dinner
during which we formally
farewelled Keren McCullagh and
Anne McCrudden from the CFA
WA Committee. Both women
devoted a great many years to the
CFA WA; to them we say a heartfelt
thank you.
The dinner included a silent auction
with all items donated by Fellows
and were associated in some
way with their Fellowships. Items
included AFL football memorabilia
and tickets, a prime beef meat
tray, signed books, Indigenous
designer clothing and more. This
auction combined with other
fundraising events resulted in the
CFA WA proud to be sponsoring a
Fellowship in 2020.
And finally, the CFA WA recognises
the importance of supporting
returning Fellows to share their
knowledge.
In October, the WA Department
of Health facilitated a Churchill
Fellows’ leadership masterclass
during which Anna Hilyard, Tim
McLennan and Sharon Gough
shared their experience as part of a
panel chaired by CFA WA President
Susan Benson.
The event was a great success and
helped support the initiation of
a new WA Department of Health
sponsored Fellowship. When
combined with the WA Department
of Communities’ continued
support, we are confident our State
will be a better place because of
the Churchill Fellowships.

Supporting the Churchill Trust
to encourage applications is an
important role for the CFA WA with
this year’s roadshows reaching out
to the rural regions of Northam and
Busselton as well as Perth.
