Green mortgages
Green mortgages were first launched in the
UK in 2006 with Ecology Building Society.
These products really came to the forefront
in 2020 with government initiatives to reach
net zero carbon footprint by 2050.
Angela McKay from First Mortgages, said:
“As a mortgage broker, five years ago
we would have been hard pressed to find a
green mortgage for a client in the
mainstream market, but now more and more
lenders are offering these mortgages and
this will only increase with the support
available from the government’s plans.
Lenders see one of the main benefits of this
offer is that energy efficient homes pose
less risk and hold more value as they grow in
desirability with home buyers, and new build
homes are continuing to improve in energy
efficiency year after year, so will certainly
offer more benefits in years to come.
Did you know?
The majority of our homes are
suitable for green mortgages?*
We want to ensure that every client we speak
to gets the best mortgage for their situation.
Therefore, anyone who buys an energy
efficient home will not only potentially save
on their utility bills each month, but these
products often offer clients cash back or a
better interest rate, potentially saving even
more money – while of course helping to
support change for our planet.
*The majority of our homes are A and B rated, speak to the development sales advisor and a financial advisor for further details.
