Extend your living
to the outdoors
Another, sometimes underutilised, living
area is your outdoor space. With people
working from home more, the ability to
extend outside provides fresh air and a
break from work too.
• Keep dining/eating areas close to
the house – so they are easily accessible
for ferrying food and drinks back and
forward.
• Consider zoning your garden – just like
your house, separate into eating,
relaxing and play areas so that you
maximise its appeal and functionality.
• Decorative outdoor screens – are great
for achieving zoning and to create
quiet spaces too.
• There is a great range of lighting –
to make outdoors more welcoming and
to create an exciting social or party
atmosphere.
Ready, steady,
create your home
Day one of the new home ‘blank canvas’
can be daunting as well as exciting. Here are
some helpful tips on where to start.
• Relax – focus on one space at a time,
decide on its good points and what you
would like to highlight within each room.
• Moodboard – assemble colours and
images of things you are drawn to.
• Paint – this is a fast and easy mood
changer and well worth a weekend to
inject some personality into a space!
• Lamps – using lamps rather than
overhead lighting helps to create a
softer, more homely feel instantly.
