HOUSING GUIDE

LGBT-Friendly
Senior Housing
Guide
This publication is a product of much work, love, and commitment
to the North Texas LGBT Community. The need for this book became
apparent, and a priority, as we watched the growing numbers of
members of the North Texas LGBT Community age and search for
long term LGBT-friendly housing options.
In order to produce this information, we had to search nationally for
best practices in creating LGBT-friendly metrics and LGBT competency
training in a senior community setting. With collaborative support from
the Friendly House and SAGE Metro Portland in Portland, Oregon and
Lavender Seniors of the East Bay in Oakland, California, we were able
to bring the basics of this process to North Texas. The true success in
North Texas is directly attributed to the committed co-leadership of Mr.
Brian Price, and Dr. Dawnetta Miller, and finally with Brian assuming the
leadership role and leading the initiative to completion. This was done
in their volunteer Board role for the organization, bringing together the
effective groups of members of the Housing and the Social Engagement
Committees of the Board of Directors. I have a deep and profound love
and respect for these two wonderful individuals.
