COLLEGE OF INNOVATION + DESIGN — Dean’s Report
BOISE
STATE X (BSX)
Increasing access and lowering
the cost of earning a high-quality
college degree for working and
rural Idahoans.
HIGHLIGHTS
AREAS FOR IMPACT: Access / Affordability
We are building partnerships that enable non-traditional
students facing roadblocks to graduate. One of our
inaugural programs, Passport to Education, provides
college access to more than 75,000 Idaho-based credit
union members at significant savings over traditional
tuition. In a partnership with CapEd Credit Union,
Extended Studies, and the College of Arts and Sciences,
this innovative monthly subscription model lowers cost
and reduces student debt, while delivering skills and
competencies employers are demanding.
Graduated first cohort in May 2019: one third of
graduating class had jobs before graduation.
Passport to Education will graduate 18 students by
December 2020.
Passport to Education has saved students $78,600 in
tuition to date.
Passport to Education was recognized at the University
Professional and Continuing Education Association
(UPCEA) National Conference and awarded West Region
Best in Show.
