Celebrating
Our Successes
NOVEMBER 2018
Concordia hospital is pleased to
provide Neurospine Surgery and
Plastics Surgery to our community
of care.
We are excited to share with you
the many award-winning accomplishments of our teams:
JANUARY 2019
Twelve additional sub acute family
medicine beds were funded in January to meet the needs of the patient
volumes in Winnipeg throughout
the winter flu season.

Valerie Wiebe, President and COO, Concordia Hospital
(middle) and Mr. S.J. Enns, recipient of the 2018 Martin
Bergen Award and past Executive Director of Concordia
Hospital (right) cut the birthday cake on October 28, 2018.
Acute family medicine services at
Concordia Hospital will transition to
sub acute family medicine services
in June.
Concordia Hospital will play a critical
role in providing care to sub-acute
patients from other tertiary centers
to ensure the right patient receives
the right care in the best place and
time.
JUNE 2019
Our Emergency department will
transition to a Walk-in Connected
Care Clinic to provide non-emergency care 12 hours a day, seven
days a week.
Concordia’s four-bed Critical Care
Unit will transition to a four-bed
assessment unit with a health
medical officer and a code team
on duty 24/7 to ensure that our
inpatient and surgical population
have around-the-clock access to
quality medical care.
Celebrating Nursing Week
We celebrated Nursing Week in 2018 with a look at how
nursing uniforms have changed through the decades. One
thing that has not changed is the care and compassion it
takes to be a nurse in 2019. Valerie Wiebe (right), Concordia
President and COO, models her uniform from the 1970s
(Winnipeg General Hospital) and Susan Findlay, RN (left)
shows off her original nurses’ uniform from the 1960s.
Our Critical Care team and its
Critical Care Quality Circle received
AWARDS FOR INNOVATION in
recognition of the Mobility Project
and a video they developed featuring the Intensive Care Unit.
Our Critical Care and Emergency
Department teams have received
among the HIGHEST SCORES in
patient satisfaction and demonstrating quality compassionate care.
Every department in the hospital has met the ACCREDITATION
TARGET for compliance in hand
hygiene, a key component in saving lives by preventing infectious
disease. Congratulations also to our
Concordia Place team, who met all
accreditation quality standards for
long-term care.
In November we celebrated 108
Concordia staff who achieved LONG
SERVICE MILESTONES ranging
from 10 years to 40 years, along
with 24 retirees. Altogether these
individuals have provided 1,765
years of service to CH and CP!
We congratulate our Family
Medicine Program for the commendation they received in the
PEACHEY REPORT. The commendation recognized the continuity
of care provided by the program’s
physicians, and their commitment to
strong relationships between doctor,
patient, family, and community. The
compassionate care we provide to
the elderly and those who require
end of life care is well recognized,
and will continue.
