The eight weeks from 1 November to Boxing Day
are often considered the “season of spending”,
but with ongoing economic hardship from the
COVID-19 pandemic, will shoppers be spreading
less holiday cheer than usual this year?

retail businesses, including in-store and online
sales, were 9.6 per cent higher in December last
year than the same time in 2019.
Local producers look set to benefit.
Preferences for Australian-made goods rose in
2020, with 93 per cent of Australians saying they
are more likely to buy products made in Australia
– up from 87 per cent a year earlier.
