RETAIL REGRET
AUSTRALIANS FILLED THEIR ONLINE SHOPPING
CARTS IN RECORD NUMBERS DURING THE
PANDEMIC, BUT MILLIONS REGRET PROCEEDING

Research from Finder shows 26 per cent of
Australians regret a purchase they made during the
pandemic. The research shows generation Z had
the most regrets, with more than half of pandemic
shoppers under 25 lamenting their retail choices.
Online shopping was a popular escape for many
during the COVID-19 lockdowns, says Kate Browne,
personal finance expert at Finder. “However, what
was once an occasional treat for some turned into a
more regular habit. Many of us splurged on things we
didn’t need or couldn’t afford and are now regretting
that decision.”
The greatest sources of buyer’s remorse include
clothing (8 per cent), used cars (7 per cent), bicycles
(5 per cent) and property (4 per cent).
