WELLBEING
FOCUS
The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic continues to exact a terrible toll on people right around the
world. As the pandemic extends beyond 18 months, the health and economic consequences
continue to escalate, and the sense of uncertainty grows. All of this is placing increased pressure
on the physical and mental wellbeing of individuals, their families and business.
The many serious challenges posed by COVID-19 have led to a greater appreciation of the
need to prioritise mental health, both for ourselves and those around us. As we did last year,
CPA Australia is publishing a special edition of INTHEBLACK as part of mental health month
in October.
The 2021 Mental Health and Resilience edition brings together a selection of feature articles,
podcasts, videos and other resources designed to help members take a proactive approach to
mental health. It features insights from experts, as well as first-hand accounts from members
on coping with burnout, building resilience and the need for businesses to invest in prioritising
mental health.
This edition of INTHEBLACK complements our participation in initiatives such as Counting
On U, an Australian federal government program delivering mental health first aid training to
accountants and business advisers to help them promote and protect the mental health needs of
employees, clients and themselves.
In producing this special edition, CPA Australia is encouraging you to foster strategies and
cultivate practices to manage your own wellbeing and support the wellbeing of your families,
business networks and clients. I hope you find the resources of benefit and value in both your
personal life and your professional life.
