Welcome to the October issue of INTHEBLACK.
It has long been evident that technology affects
and transforms how we live, work and connect.
CPA Australia’s 2021 Business Technology Report
confirms that technology has a positive relationship
with business growth and performance.
Our approach to our roles as business partners and
trusted advisers is adapting to match the economic
and social transformation that the emergence of new
technologies brings.
In fact, every facet of what we do as accountants is
impacted by the take-up and application of technology.
One of the greatest opportunities I see is the application
of technology to environmental, social and governance
(ESG) issues. Technology can assist with the efficient
collection of data for ESG reporting and aid businesses
in adopting holistic ESG practices.
Artificial intelligence, meanwhile, allows accountants
and finance professionals to collect and analyse more data
faster than ever before. We can use this to help our clients
identify more sustainable strategies, solutions, practices
and decisions.
Technology is here to help, and so are we. CPA Australia
has evolved its education strategy to include units such
as digital finance, and data analytics and interpretation
to help you harness the power of technology. Explore our
digital finance micro-credentials.
To encourage the uptake of technology, we have been
calling for more government support for digital adoption
by businesses, especially small businesses, which often
struggle with technology adoption. Building the digital
capacity and capability of our small businesses is a good
way for governments to future-proof the economy.
It is interesting to reflect on ways that people can
use and integrate technology to enhance outcomes.
The 2021 Business Technology Report lists the
technologies that growing businesses plan to increase
investment in or use of over the next 12 months.
I encourage you to take a look and consider how you
can extract more value for your business, clients or
stakeholders through technology.
