How often, if at all, do you say is “OK“ to
blowout your hair for the option of straight
hair?
It’s always okay. I don’t tell my clients what to
do. I educate them on the possibility when
doing whatever they’re thinking about doing to
their hair. Whenever there is direct heat and
tension, there is always a possibility of heat
damage. I’ve blown out my hair and went back
to curls the next week, and visually my hair
appeared fine. I’ve had clients come to me after
one blow dry and the hair was never the same.
It only takes one time. Even if not visible to the
naked eye, on a microscopic level, the structure
of the hair changes. There’s always a risk.
Do you recommend curly cuts for clients
that also wear their hair straight from time
to time?
I recommend people get their hair cut in
the way they wear their hair 90% of the
time. Personally, I’m not cutting hair for
the 10%. Yes, when you go to that thing
you do for that 10% you might need to be
adjusted, that’s normal and totally fine.
